Plateau United consolidated their top spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League table with after edging MFM FC 1-0 on matchday-34 games on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
It was old war horse, Ibe Johnson, who got his team now on 62 points to a promising start with a 3rd minute opener against second placed Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) who are stuck on 56 points.
Leaders Plateau are now unbeaten in 36 home matches at the Rwang Pam Stadium.
Plateau missed goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye while MFM were without Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun who were away on international duty with the home-based Super Eagles.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Rangers pipped Sunshine Stars 1-0. The Flying Antelopes went in front as Christian Madu converted a 27th minute penalty.
Akwa United closed down the gap behind MFM with a massive 3-0 thrashing of Niger Tornadoes. Cyril Olisema put Akwa United ahead against Niger Tornadoes in the 27th minute with a freekick at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and Gabriel Okechukwu added a second eight minutes before the break. Edem Akakatang made it 3-0 for Akwa and game over for Tornadoes.
Enyimba hosted ABS at the UJ Eusene Stadium, Calabar and claimed all three points to reach 54 points and joint third with Akwa. Stanley Dimgba headed in an Ikechukwu Ibenegbu freekick in the 16th minute. Eric Frimpong and Ibrahim Mustapha's goals ensured it was 3-0 for the Aba Elephants.
Chinedu Udechukwu scored from the spot and Destiny Ashadi doubled Katsina United's lead against Wikki Tourists in their 2-0 win.
At the Dipo Dina Stadium in Sagamu, Remo's relegation bell rang loud as they went behind in the 15th minute against Rivers United when Bernard Ovoke struck a freekick. Emeka Ogbuh grabbed the second for the Port Harcourt side nineteen minutes after the opener. Esosa Igbinoba turned in the third of the evening for The Pride of Rivers just over the hour mark.
Safewi Ochowechi pulled a goal back for Remo with two minutes left on the clock
Abia Warriors defeated Shooting Stars of Ibadan 2-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium. Ndifreke Effiong scored from close
range in the 13th minute. The woes of the visitors were however compounded as Alabe Osawe unluckily turned in Ndifreke's shot into his own net.
The Pantami Stadium witnessed a clash between Gombe United and Kano Pillars. Ibrahim Abdullahi scored Gombe's goal from a freekick in the 51st minute and it was the only strike that saw the back of the net.
Nasarawa was hosts of Lobi Stars and their contest ended 1-0 WITH Buhari Jafar scoring from a goal mouth scramble in the 90th minute.
The game between El Kanemi and FC Ifeanyi Ubah was postponed to Monday (8am) as the Nnewi warlords experienced flight difficulties.
